Your Instructor: Tracy Misner
The Winston-Salem Film Academy is the brainchild of Tracy Misner. Misner has been filming and editing media since 1993. He is a graduate of Belmont University with a degree in business and a concentration in recording engineering and music business. He started Videotimes, Inc. in 1994 and closed the business in 2009 to move onto teaching film and video at Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, Georgia. There he taught students how to be storytellers and how to monetize their skillset utilizing a program he has coined "Run It Like You Own It."
The film and video program at Alpharetta High School became nationally recognized by earning 32 Student Production Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has personally guided over 1000 students in 13 years to learn visual storytelling and monetization. In addition, he has earned Teacher of The Year from Student Television Network as well as becoming an Apple Distinguished Educator. PBS has also awarded him a Digital Innovator. While at Alpharetta High School, he created "The Morning Show" now seen in over 20 countries and all 50 states! He retired from teaching in 2022 and moved to Winston-Salem to pursue his next venture-Misner Media, LLC. While growing his business with his wife, he befriended Alan Shelton at Mixxer Makerspace and pitched the idea of the WSFA. Alan then pursued seed money to purchase equipment and provide a place to hold the Academy. the mission of both Mixxer and WSFA are very similar, teaching and engaging the people of Winston-Salem. |
